The Anniversary year emblem

The emblem for the anniversary year has been designed by architect Jari Laiho. The key to the design is the important years in TKK’s history.

The year 1849, when the Technical School of Helsinki was established, appears slightly to the side, referring to the long timeline in history. The typeface, based on a soft and delicate Electra, together with the freeform arrangement of the numbers, brings a rich contrast to the technical and angular whole.

The years 1908 and 2008 are intertwined, expressing the message “TKK 100 years". The figure 100 is cleverly emphasised through the arrangement of the digits and making 1 and 0 bold.

The use of pixel and matrix motifs are a reference to the electronic and digital (technology) and formulas and tables (science). The pixel-like grid can also be seen as a representation of various phenomena and events, frozen moments in the continuum of time and space.
